China's radio and television authorities attended the 3GPP meeting and submitted proposals related to 5G broadcasting technology.

From October 8 to 12, 2018, the 3GPP Radio Access Network Working Group meeting (3GPP RAN1 #94bis) was held in Chengdu. Representatives from the Broadcasting Science Research Institute of the National Radio and Television Administration attended the meeting on behalf of the Wireless Interactive Broadcast TV Working Group and jointly submitted three proposals together with Huawei and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

This meeting marked the first public discussion since the 5G broadcasting project was approved in June 2018. Key participants included representatives from Huawei, Qualcomm, EBU, BBC, Nokia, Ericsson, ZTE, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and the Guangdong Academy of Sciences. Additionally, organizations such as IRT, Fraunhofer, Intel, and Mediatek also joined the email discussion list. Prior to the meeting, nine proposals were submitted by three different teams, focusing primarily on conducting simulation studies. These simulations aimed to compare results with the technical requirements of 5G broadcasting, identify potential areas for improvement, and ultimately provide a robust technical foundation for developing the 5G broadcasting solution. During the meeting, the team members thoroughly discussed key aspects such as application scenarios for the simulations and the selection of relevant simulation parameters.
Representatives from the Broadcasting Science Research Institute discussed China's actual DTMB deployment situation and application scenarios for wireless interactive broadcasting television, including requirements related to high-power, high-tower base station spacing, transmission power, in-vehicle coverage, and dual-antenna reception. They also participated in the debate, and some of their suggestions were incorporated into the simulation scenarios and parameters.

During this meeting, representatives from the Broadcasting Science Research Institute, speaking on behalf of the Wireless Interactive Broadcast Television Working Group, conveyed the needs of China's radio and television industry to 3GPP. This active participation in the standard-setting process ensures that future 5G broadcasting technology standards will align with and effectively support the unique requirements of the broadcasting sector.
